A Unique Horror-Thriller
Plot:
“Aghathiyaa” follows Aghathiyaa (Jiiva), an art director who faces financial trouble when a film shoot is canceled. He and his assistant, Veena (Raashi Khanna), turn an old house into a ‘scary house’ to recover their losses. However, they soon discover the house is haunted by the ghosts of a Frenchman, Edwin Duplex, his daughter, and his accountant. As they unravel a story of betrayal, revenge, and ancient Siddhar medicine, Aghathiyaa becomes entangled in a mystery that changes his life forever.
Direction & Screenplay:
Directed by Pa Vijay, the film blends horror with cultural elements, especially the ancient Indian Siddhar medicine. The screenplay is engaging, and the period details are well-executed, creating a fresh take on the genre.
Performances:
Jiiva delivers a strong performance, effectively portraying a man caught between the supernatural and his emotional struggles. Raashi Khanna is a capable co-lead, and Arjun Sarja adds depth with his portrayal of a Siddhar practitioner.
Visuals & Special Effects:
The film is visually appealing, with impressive VFX used to enhance the horror and fantasy elements. The art department does well to recreate a French atmosphere, adding to the setting’s authenticity.
Pacing & Final Act:
The film is well-paced but loses some momentum in the final act, where the resolution feels rushed and drawn-out.
Verdict:
“Aghathiyaa” is a unique horror-thriller, combining mystery, cultural richness, and emotional depth, making it a solid family entertainer.
