Maaman Movie Review

Verdict: “A heartfelt family tale buried under a mountain of over-indulgence.”

Maaman follows Inba (Soori), a devoted uncle whose life revolves around his nephew Laddu. When he marries Reka (Aishwarya Lekshmi), the couple struggles to find space in a family where the child dominates every moment. While the film aims to explore love, loyalty, and boundaries within a joint family, it often gets lost in excessive melodrama and repetitive scenes.

Soori is sincere but plays a largely passive character. Aishwarya Lekshmi shines as the voice of reason, grounding the film with her composed performance. Swasika is strong, though her character’s denial feels outdated. The film touches on relevant themes like emotional dependence and marital neglect but doesn’t delve deep enough. With underused subplots and an overlong runtime, Maaman feels stretched and uneven.

Pros: Strong performances, relatable themes.
Cons: Repetitive storytelling, over-indulgent child character, lack of depth.
