“A Gritty Character Drama Held Together by Stellar Performances”

Sorgavaasal, directed by Sidharth Vishwanath, offers an insightful glimpse into India’s flawed prison system. The story revolves around Parthiban (RJ Balaji), a wrongly accused pushcart owner, navigating life in a chaotic prison ruled by gangster Sigamani (Selvaraghavan) and a conflicted jailer, Kattabomman (Karunaas).

The film excels in its portrayal of complex characters, with standout performances by Balaji, Selvaraghavan, and Balaji Sakthivel. Themes of resilience, morality, and systemic corruption shine through, supported by Christo Xavier’s gripping score and Prince Anderson’s atmospheric visuals.

However, the rushed climax and underdeveloped subplots detract from its impact. Despite these flaws, Sorgavaasal remains a compelling exploration of humanity within confinement.

Verdict: “A gritty prison drama that thrives on its performances and nuanced storytelling, despite faltering in its final act.”
